Uber

Headed for a night out on the town? Or maybe just trying to get to where you need to be? There is this rapidly growing company that is cheaper than a Taxi and much easier to get access too.

Uber can be found in major cities all over the world and even in smaller (not too small) ones like San Luis Obispo. Their slogan is clear and unmistakable, “Whenever you’re ready, wherever you are — it’s the easiest way to go”.

How to use their services is so simple. You get the app on your smartphone and you input your pick up location (so easy) then an......
Uber driver will accept and you will then input where you are headed (destination) and then once they pick you up, the route and estimated time of arrival will appear on your phone and you are on your way! That easy, that quick, that simple.

There is no hidden fee’s and the calculations are quick (so is the payment process). As an example, in San Luis Obispo the base fare is $3.00 + .15 a minute (cheap) + $2.45 a mile (less then taxi) + $1.00 for safe rides fee = totally affordable. No more scrounging for change on a taxi when you are unsure exactly how much you need to pay them. No more trusting the taxi with your card to swipe it (always worried about fraud). Nope instead you pay through the application and you are on your way. No worries, no problems. The only thing you have to worry about is what you are going to wear and who you will meet.

The best part is no matter the time, 3:00 am or 5:00 p.m. Someone is can be there to pick you up and take you safely home. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week they are there for you. If say in the off chance that you ever do have a problem with your ride Uber wants to know about it. They are always wanting you to take part in reviews of your driver. Also there is community managers ready to handle any issues you might have. The goal that I have noticed is they want you to be happy and safe in your travels. However there are some rules, like no children under the age of 18 (sorry parents they can’t take over the soccer mom duties) They are welcome to accompany an adult if under the age of 18 but no solo acts. Also if you need to take (fluffy) the cat to the vet and need a ride after placing your pick up location and a driver approves give them a call and make sure they accept pets. Just remember to clean up any messes out of kindness ;). So there you have it, the new way to travel without the stress of driving or owning a car. Cheaper than a taxi (probably safer too).

With just a few taps of your phone you can then just click your heels reciting “There’s no place like home” is optional (thats what I do) and in a snap you are safely where you need to be.
